During the rainy season in June, you can enjoy hydrangeas in many places. The other day, I introduced you to Mimuroto-ji Temple, famous for its hydrangeas 😉.
6月の梅雨の時期は各地であじさいを楽しむ事ができます。先日、あじさいで有名な三室戸寺（みむろとじ）を紹介しましたね😉
Fujimori Shrine
The other day I visited Fujimori Shrine in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto. Fujimori Shrine is not as large as Mimuroto-ji Temple, but it has a hydrangea garden with about 3,500 hydrangea plants that is open to the public from June to July. There are also various events at Fujimori Shrine during this period.
先日、京都の伏見区にある藤森神社に行きました。藤森神社は三室戸寺ほどの大きな規模ではありませんが、3,500株ほどのあじさい園を6月から7月まで公開しています。この期間、藤森神社では色んなイベントもあります。
Gagaku Dedication
I went on June 19. I went without checking the event information, but the timing was just right. As I approached, I heard mysterious music.
As I approached at a short run, I found it was Gagaku music.
私が行ったのは6月19日。イベント情報をチェックせずに行ったのですが、ちょうど良いタイミングでした。近づくにつれて、神秘的な音楽が聞こえてきたのです。
小走りで近づくと、雅楽でした。
What is Gagaku?
Gagaku is a mixture of ancient indigenous Japanese music and ancient Asian music from China and the Korean peninsula, which was completed in the mid-Heian period. It is recognized as the world's oldest music with a solid musical theory and orchestration.
雅楽は、古くから伝わる日本固有の音楽と、中国や朝鮮半島から伝来した古代アジアの音楽がミックスされ、平安中期に完成した音楽です。しっかりと音楽理論があり、オーケストレーションも整ったものとしては、世界最古のものだと認識されています。
When I think of Gagaku, I am reminded of Hideki Togi, a Gagaku master.
雅楽といえば、私が思い出すのは雅楽師の東儀秀樹さんです。
Buraku
A dance called Bugaku was also performed to accompany the gagaku music. The program was called "Kochou" (butterfly). The four dancers in bright costumes represent butterflies dancing on a spring day.
雅楽に合わせて舞楽（ぶらく）という踊りも披露されました。演目は蝴蝶（こちょう）です。鮮やかな衣装を着た4人は春の日に舞い遊ぶ蝶を表しています。
Hydrangea Garden
Now, it is time to enter the Hydrangea Garden. The admission ticket to the hydrangea garden is 300 yen. We can also use this ticket for the second entrance at the back of the shrine.
There are so many different kinds of hydrangeas 🤗.
Almost everyone was taking pictures in the garden. I took a lot of pictures too.

さて、いよいよあじさい園に入ります。あじさい園の入園チケットは300円です。このチケットは神社の奥にある2つ目の入園にも使えます。
色んな種類のあじさいがありますね🤗
園内ではほとんどの人が写真撮影をしていました。私もたくさん撮りましたよ。

Meals
A meal corner was prepared for the Hydrangea Festival. I had dango and soba noodles. A small cup contains the soup in which you dip the Soba. You can also add green onions and wasabi to your liking. Wasabi is spicy. If you are a first time eater, please try a little at a time.
あじさい祭りのために、食事コーナーが用意されていました。お団子と蕎麦を食べましたよ。小さなカップには蕎麦を浸す汁が入っています。お好みでネギとわさびも入れます。ワサビは辛いです。初めて食べる人は少しずつ試してくださいね。
I had a short chat with an old lady sitting across from me and she gave me a candy. The ladies in Kansai always carry candys in their bags and use it as a communication tool🍬 Is this a culture unique to Japan?
向かいに座ったおばあちゃんと少し話していると、アメをもらいました。関西のおばちゃん達はいつもバッグにアメを入れていて、コミュニケーションツールとして使います🍬これは日本だけの文化かな？
The dumplings were baked mugwort dumplings.
They were very tasty with anko (red bean paste) inside 😉.
お団子はヨモギ団子を焼いたものでした。
中にあんこが入っていて、とても美味しかったですよ😉
Mosquito Control
Have you ever seen this? They are called "Katori-senko" and they kill mosquitoes with smoke. It was under the table seats.
There are many mosquitoes in the Hydrangea Garden, so I sprayed myself with insect repellent before leaving home.
これを見たことがありますか？「蚊取り線香」といい、煙で蚊を退治するものです。テーブル席の下にありました。
あじさい園には蚊がたくさんいますので、私も家を出る前に虫除けスプレーをしてきました。
Cyouzu-bachi
A chozu-bachi is a bowl in which water is poured to purify the hands before praying.
It was decorated with hydrangeas for the event.
手水鉢（ちょうずばち）はお参りする前に手などを清めるために水を入れる器です。
イベントのためにあじさいで飾られていました。
The guardian deity of Fujimori Shrine is a horse
Fujimori Shrine is said to be beneficial for study and luck in winning. Since the guardian deity is a horse, people involved in horse racing (horse owners, jockeys, etc.) and horse racing fans often visit the shrine.
In early May, there is a horse event.
藤森神社は学問、勝運にご利益があると言われています。守り神は馬ですので競馬関係者（馬主・騎手等）や競馬ファンなどもよく参拝に来ます。
5月初めには、馬のイベントもありますよ。
Fujimori Shrine has interesting events throughout the year, and we will introduce them little by little.
